Candidate Lyndon LaRouche participated in a press conference in Whittier, CA on August 16th. He was presented as the keynote speaker of the 7th Annual Conference on the Re-Emergence of China which was to begin on August 17th. We reprint here a press release written by EIR News Service which attended the press conference. Mr. LaRouche's prepared remarks are also  available.

Aug. 16 (EIRNS) -- "GREAT THINKER" LYNDON LAROUCHE WAS PRESENTED AS THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT THE 7TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON THE REMERGENCE OF CHINA, which will begin Aug. 17 under the auspices of the Institute of Sino-Strategic Studies, at a press conference in Whittier, California today. Eight Chinese media outlets, including Xinhua, attended the event.

The press conference was opened by a leader of the Institute, Wang Chung Ping, who announced that Lyndon LaRouche would be the keynote speaker. He said that we are honored to have this great thinker with us.

LaRouche then made some short comments, which we paraphrase here.

These are very interesting times. We are in one of the greatest financial crises in world history. Governments are disintegrating in various parts of the world and the danger of war spreading, as it often does under these circumstances.

The question of China must be put in that framework today, including the relationship between China and Taiwan, and the relationship between China and Asia as a whole.

There are two leading questions to answer: First, what is the nature of the sickness which has led to the current situation? Second, what are the solutions and what will be the role of China in this?

He concluded by saying that he hoped that what he has to contribute tomorrow will be useful to this conference.

LaRouche's remarks were followed by Wong Jin Ping, President of the Alliance for the Reunification of China. He said it was his great pleasure to meet with Mr. LaRouche. He thought this conference would be the most significant of the seven so far. For the world to have peace and progress, the Eurasian Land-Bridge is necessary, and is the policy we share with Mr. LaRouche. Other strategists instead see this effort as part of a global chessboard.

The third speaker was Dr. Tie Lin Yin, a co-chairman of the conference. He said, in paraphrase: We are so honored to have the distinguished thinker, Lyndon LaRouche. Some call him a leading economist and statesman, but I see him as something higher, a distinguished thinker.

After a few brief comments by others, the press was given the opportunity to ask questions. The first, and only question, was to LaRouche, on the matter of China and the Taiwan Straits. Lyn's answer dealt chiefly on John Quincy Adams and his concept of the community of principle. Following the public answer, the press gathered around LaRouche to follow up on this matter, and the question of the significance of the nation-state. LaRouche emphasized how foolish it was, after World War II, for states like China, Korea, Germany, and Vietnam to have been divided, and expressed his conviction that the common cultures of these divided nations would permit them to come together. But common purposes must be adopted between all nations. He concluded with the thought that the hearts of those in the United States who know history, are with the unification of China.
