In an article titled "State Leaders Seek Spotlight of Presidential Primaries," daily staff writer Justin Noel Shimko at the University of Oklahoma at Norman, discusses the presence of presidential hopefuls Gephardt, Lieberman, and Edwards, who will all have offices in Oklahoma this year. Lieberman addressed OU last year and his wife, Hadassah, last month (Lieberman's sister lives in Norman, OK). Noel Shimko attributes this to the potential moving up of Oklahoma's primary, from the third week of March to February 3rd, one week after the New Hampshire primary.
He then devotes the last few paragraphs to describing LaRouche's campaign:
"One Democratic candidate who is trying to make a presence in Oklahoma is Lyndon LaRouche. Through youth campaigns, LaRouche is trying to mobilize the college-aged voters into making a difference in the political future.
"This new generation, the 'no-future' generation, is in a conflict with the 'now' generation that runs the country', LaRouche said.
"'So, our problem is to move these younger people,' he said. 'Remember, the American Revolution was a youth movement.'
"By mobilizing youth, LaRouche said he believes the youth could become a true voice in the country, eventually taking over the current generation of leaders."
OU Daily runs a circulation of 12,000, and the University of Oklahoma has over. 22,000 students.
