The world's widest circulating Arabic newspaper, the Saudi, London-based Asharq Al-Awsat, published an article by Zainil-Abdin Al-Rikabi, a staff writer, under the title: "The Other America; the Reasonable and Responsible". The article states in the first line: "The American political and economic figure, Lyndon LaRouche, has a startling statement, which is more powerful than a nuclear bomb. This statement is that ‘Richard Perle wants to push the United States into a total war against the Muslim nations'."
Al-Rikabi added that, "what makes this statement more startling, explosive, realistic, and dangerous is that it is not a single statement or a slip of the tongue, but that it is connected to a long-standing strategy which -- at the same time -- exposes this (other) strategy." Then he asks: "What is this Zionist strategy, which has been adopted by Perle and his likes?" To answer the question, Al-Rikabi cites the "free and brave Jewish thinker" Israel Shamir, who had written a book on Israel's nuclear and foreign policy. Shamir's point is that Israeli "had, since long, decided to launch a comprehensive struggle against the Muslims," and that Israel is not doing that for the benefit of the western Goyim, but for the realization of old ambitions that now have expressed themselves as strategic objectives." From this, Al-Rikabi concludes: "By assigning to Laurant Murawiec his mission, and directing him into his study -- which discovered that the Saudi is an enemy of America and that Saudi Arabia is the kernel of evil -- Richard Perle, who is plotting and committing treason against his nation, is implementing a Zionist scheme. This scheme is specifically: to push America to wage a war against Muslims in the world. The thing, which proves this man's proneness to aggression is that he is one of the major advocates for launching an American war against a Muslim-Arab nation, Iraq." In contrast, Rikabi says: "LaRouche's voice, which is opposite to this aggressive, Zionism-influenced and evil tendency, was not a lone voice in the wilderness. There is a growing current at all levels in the U.S. now, which is pressing for a change in U.S. foreign policy to bring it closer to the vital American interests; a foreign policy which a more truthful representation of the true America. We can call this growing current ‘the other America'." Al-Rikabi names, in addition to LaRouche, certain figures who have come out to show their opposition to the war plans against Iraq and to the war on terrorism, such as the 2000 American intellectuals who signed a petition opposition the "war on terrorism" ideology, James Baker III, Lawrence Eagleburger, Scowcroft, Kissinger, Charles Hagel, and David Ignatius. "What does than mean?" asks Al-Rikabi. He answers: "This means that there is another American; a reasonable, responsible and patriotic America.... This means that there is a powerful American opposition to the policies targetting us. This means that, while we keep an eye on those who hate us and want to harm our interests, the objective and balanced reality instructs us to open our eyes to the promising and reasonable people there too." In conclusion, Al-Rikabi says: "American is not a homogenous deaf block, which we either should reject as whole or accept as whole. There is the reasonable and just America, which we like to have an eternal relationship with, and there is the wild and aggressive America, which we are right in criticizing and being aware of." -30- Return to the Home Page |
