May 25, 2023 --. Upon hearing the news of Attorney General John Ashcroft's declarations of his intentions to go ahead with the June 11 execution of convicted Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, Lyndon LaRouche observed that Ashcroft's actions jeopardize vital American national security interests. LaRouche noted that, while he cannot specifically account for Ashcroft's motives in rushing to execute McVeigh, the actions are stupid and bullheaded, and could result in the United States being shut off from one of the few sources of information about the broader terrorist network involved in the bombing, which is still at large.

The fact that the FBI is still, to this day, uncovering further documents that were withheld from defense attorneys in the Oklahoma City prosecution, raises a serious matter of whether the government failed to release exculpatory evidence. But the issue of exculpatory evidence aside, the fact is that there is compelling  evidence that the FBI and the Department of Justice adopted a "lone assassin" theory of the Oklahoma City bombing, early in the investigation, and suppressed vital evidence, and ignored vital leads, that would have pointed towards the broader network of conspirators behind the bombing. These people are still out there and are still functioning. This poses a real threat to the national security of the United States, and, by his actions, Attorney General Ashcroft threatens to compound that threat, by shutting up one crucial potential source of leads. In a case such as the Oklahoma City bombing, the standards of justice that ought to be upheld are both the truth and the public interest. The truth has, by all accounts, been suppressed, and the public interest is directly contradicted by rushing to execute McVeigh, LaRouche said.

What is it that the FBI was trying to hide when they dropped the broader investigation and settled on "lone assassin" McVeigh? It is certainly in the interest of justice that this question be answered before Ashcroft plays out his pay-per-view snuff film spectacle.
