Question: What role does Mexico have to play in rebuilding the world financial system, politically and economically and with trade?

LaRouche: As I said before, my view on Mexico has not changed that much since 1982, when I had met with President Lopez Portillo, who I admire and feel close to to the present day. As everyone knows, I have a great affinity for the patriotic currents in Mexico, as opposed to those who may have funny ideas. I think Mexico has a very special responsibility, as Lopez Portillo said during that period. He has the advantage and disadvantage of being close to the United States. But Mexico is most important, the pivotal part of any agreement within the Americas. I think Mexico is conscious of that role. I think other states in the Americas are also conscious of Mexico's potential or active role in that connection. And people in Mexico should think of Mexico as playing that role. Mexico can play a key role in pulling together some of the crucial elements of leadership, for a reorganization in the hemisphere and related kinds of things.
